The formula
Cross-section area = π × ((OD/2)² − ((OD − 2 × wall)/2)²). Multiply by density 7.85 t/m³ and by 1,000 to get kg per metre. A 60.3 × 3.6 mm tube is 5.03 kg/m.
Nominal versus actual
Pipe sizes such as DN50 or 2" refer to a nominal bore, not the outside diameter. Always confirm the actual OD and wall from the drawing or the mill certificate before ordering.
Why bore and internal volume matter
For hydraulic lines, cooling circuits and pressure testing you need the internal volume, not the steel weight. The calculator returns it in litres so you can size a pump or estimate fluid fill directly.

How do I calculate the weight of a steel pipe?
Subtract the internal circle from the external circle, multiply by length and density. For a 60.3 mm OD tube with 3.6 mm wall the result is about 5.03 kg per metre.
Is DN50 the same as 2 inch pipe?
Close but not identical — DN50 has an outside diameter of about 60.3 mm and 2" nominal pipe about 60.3 mm as well, but wall thickness varies by schedule, so the weight differs.
Can I calculate weight for square or rectangular tube?
