How do you calculate the weight of steel plate?

Multiply thickness × width × length in metres to get volume in m³, then multiply by steel density (7.85 t/m³ for carbon steel). A 6 mm plate 1 m × 1 m is 47.1 kg.

What is the density of steel?

Carbon steel is 7.85 g/cm³, stainless 304 is 7.93 and 316 is 7.98, aluminium is 2.70. Switch material in the calculator to recalculate.

Why does theoretical weight differ from actual weight?

Mill tolerances on thickness and width typically allow ±5–10%. Theoretical weight is used for estimating and pricing; certified actual weight comes from the mill test certificate.

Do you supply to calculated weight or to piece count?

Both. Plate and coil are usually supplied by weight; fabricated parts, grating and cut items are usually supplied by piece, with theoretical weight shown for freight calculation.
